Varithena varicose treatment provides patients with a new, alternative form of sclerotherapy that addresses various symptoms caused by varicose veins. As a new, minimally-invasive treatment, this nonsurgical option effectively controls symptoms such as achiness, swelling, and heaviness in the legs.

How Does Varithena Varicose Treatment Work?

Varithena is a sclerosing agent made out of polidocanol injectable foam and, when injected into the varicose veins, works to collapse the diseased vein. Once the vein is fully dissolved, the foam will then be diluted in the bloodstream and flushed out of the system. From there, the blood flow shifts to healthier veins nearby and can improve symptoms caused by varicose veins. With this form of treatment, no form of anesthesia is required and can be injected directly or through a catheter for effective use.

The procedure takes a total of 30 minutes to top complete, and once the procedure is complete, bandages and compression socks are applied to the legs. The compression socks should be continuously worn for up to two weeks to help transfer blood flow to the healthy veins. Studies have shown that patients who received Varithena experienced improved symptoms and vein appearances.
